ARTSPACE Gallery Opens Mouneer Al Shaarani's Calligraphy Exhibit

When I was invited in the launch of the calligraphy exhibit of the famous calligraphy artist Mouneer Al Shaarani opening at ARTSPACE Gallery in DIFC, I didn't have a second thought even I couldn't read or write in Arabic.

I know it wouldn't be hard for me to appreciate Arabic art as I always try to see things beautifully in everything.

HE Mohammad Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council of the UAE inaugurated the opening ceremony attended by VIP guests, friends and followers of the artist including the media.

The exhibition featured some of the most acclaimed works of Mouneer Al Shaarani who is a celebrated calligrapher, designer and writer, living and working in Syria. Describing his works, Al Shaarani said they are the “outcome of pondering over the rich calligraphic heritage with a critical eye. "I endeavored to produce a calligraphic work which does not depend on borrowing from other arts, and it doesn't derive its aesthetics but only from pairing between general aesthetic bases of the arts, and the essential aesthetic characteristics of Arabic calligraphy. I chose some extremely ancient calligraphy styles as Kairouan Kufi, square Kufi, and Almashriki Kufi. I studied the characteristics of each style, developed their letters, completed their shortcomings, amended their ratios and reformulated them structurally and synthetically with modernistic logic.”

The Mouneer Al Shaarani exhibition show will be in exhibit until 16th May at ARTSPACE Dubai Bldg 3 The Gate Village Podium Level, Dubai International Financial Center. For more information about the artist, please contact ARTSPACE at 04 323 0820 or send email to sossy@artspace-dubai.com

How to Apply for Children's Residence Visa Under Mother Sponsorship in Dubai 2019

Dubai, 29/09/2019 For expatriate married women living and working in Dubai especially those earning less than 10,000 dirhams salary per month and whose job description is not allowed to apply for visas for their family, sponsoring their children has never been easy until the recent changes in Dubai immigration rules that took effect mid of 2019 this year. The rule now allows any UAE resident (those who have a valid employment visa) male or  FEMALE can now sponsor family members provided that he or she earns a monthly salary of AED 4000 or AED 3000 plus accommodation according to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship. Back in the day, when I tried to sponsor my husband, my experience was completely different. You can read about it  here . Just this month, a friend of mine applied for her children's visa in Dubai. It was approved, and the visa was issued and stamped on her children's passports. We shared below the documents required and the step-by-step

Sinampalukang Isda (Tilapia/Sea Bream) Pang-alis Umay!

After Christmas and New Year holidays, do you feel you've had enough of the leftovers? I feel the same way. I needed something to break away from it. The first craving I had was a very Pinoy fish dish.  Sinampalukang isda. Some would think of it as sinigang but it is not sinigang. It is a soup dish of fish in tamarind broth, ginger, chilis, onions, tomatoes, radish leaves or pechay, and of course fish. Okay, it is like sinigang (hahaha). It usually calls for tilapia but I opted for sea bream. It is a completely hearty meal. Of course, to be eaten with hot steaming rice and sawsawan (a mixture of fish sauce and green chili) The original dish calls for fresh raw tamarind but since it is hardly available where I am, I used powdered tamarind. The difference is that fresh raw tamarind gives this dish a thick broth distinct from sinampalukang isda my parents used to cook for us, unlike powdered tamarind. (oh well ex-pat life) So, how to cook it? Ingredients (serves 2) 1 medium-size sea
