Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

1 comment:
Someone told me that putting up the Christmas tree in November is way too early...

but not the case for us.

The Philippines has the reputation of a country who celebrate Christmas the longest in the world starting as early as September and last until January 6 of the following year.

I grew up in this tradition and this year is not different from any other year we celebrated Christmas even I am away from home and even I am in a country where Christmas is not celebrated by everybody.

I am actually late this year, my mind was occupied with so many things and I don't have the will to bring out tree from its box and dust off the ornaments. If not for the three little kids at home, the tree would have not come out from hibernation. Christmas is for the children anyways.

Prince was the one in charge to put the star on top of the tree.

Our tree is not real, we never had a fresh tree for Christmas but yes fresh trees are available in Dubai by order from ACE hardware, All Spinneys, in Fresh Flowers, Satwa or at Dubai Garden Center. Due to the rising demand of fresh trees in UAE, fresh trees has become widely available. Just be sure to call them first before going to be sure they have it already.

The fresh trees comes as trees only and what's a Christmas tree without the ornaments and lights. I have seen huge stock of Christmas decorations in all colors, shapes and sizes last week at Ace Hardware and IKEA in Dubai Festival City. There is another place called Falcon Gallery where you can get beautiful decors (branches in Dubai and Sharjah) and many supermarkets around UAE are selling Christmas decorations. Have you been counting down the days? We do. 35 Days to go!

This wreath is an up cycled wreath made from materials I got somewhere it is no longer needed and I turn it into a pretty wreath that now adorns our front door. No matter how small or cheap or old the decors you have or even you don't have any of it, the most important is the spirit of Christmas that lives in our hearts.

Christmas might be difficult to celebrate for those who survive the strongest typhoon that hit our country recently and those who have lost everything they have including their loved ones but Filipinos are resilient people and we all have united to help them get back on their feet again and hopefully things will be in order before the Christmas day so they can have a Merry little Christmas too.

A not yet so spooky Saturday

No comments:
Can you call this spooky? What I see in this is pure FUN! The kids had a great time yesterday and I had fun too.

We are two weeks away from Halloween but thought that we can make something out of the orange and black crepe paper that we have at home. I thought that the kids would love to do crafts since they are already doing some art stuff. We made paper spider webs like the ones you see in the photo, we got the idea from here. We also made some orange and black  crepe hanging decors and with a little bit of make faces, we already achieved a little bit of spooky atmosphere. Hey look at the little guy and and and .........the man behind you!!!!

Dubai + Summer = Fun at the Beach

2 comments:

The mercury rise to 41 degrees today and as the summer sets in, we are expecting higher mercury levels here in Dubai. Summer here can be very hot, humid and boring that's why many expats and even locals seek comfort in cooler places outside of the country after the school closes in June. Thanks to the many malls that dot the city who organizes loads of acitivites for children and adults alike and where air conditioning is set to coolest. Aplenty of beaches in Dubai are also flocked by thousands of people during summer where it's breezy and one can enjoy a dip in the water to freshen up.

It's actually ideal to go to the beach between March until early May or September to November particularly  in the morning or late afternoon if you don't want to get too tan, don't forget that most precious sun screen to protect your skin. Some beach are accessed only from the parks or shall I say some parks have beach access. If you are going to the park with a beach access, I suggest you to bring in some meat kabob or sea food and veggies for barbecueing, anyway what is summer without grilling, eh? You know that you can do a lot of fun things at the park so squeeze all the fun ideas in your head and head on before it gets too hot.

Have a good weekend folks :)

Laguna: Pinas Vacation 2011: Enchanted Kingdom

No comments:
This was our second visit at Enchanted Kingdom. The first was in 2006 and Lanna was only 2 years old back then so she did not enjoy much of the rides since she did not reach the height requirement. Now that she's seven years old, braver and taller, she could ride as much as she can. As for Prince, he has to wait a bit longer.

Since this was a family outing, we click, click and click our way inside the theme park

Pinas Vacation 2011: Punchline Comedy Bar

4 comments:
Me and Ferald has been meaning to go to a comedy bar, an opportunity came in when his high school friends ask us to join them. We expected it and I tell you from the moment I sit and the time I stood up to leave, I was laughing. We were elated, I barely could feel the muscles in my face, it felt numb from too much laughing. The topic being discussed by the comedians were something very sensitive but are able to speak the truth and make fun of it. (Ano pa bang tinutukoy ko kundi *ex) I just wonder if they talk about the same thing every other night. Hmmm!

Everybody can be funny I guess but not everyone has the talent like these people with extreme sense of humor up to the point that it became their bread & butter. Read: I am proud of them, they are very talented. Every word that comes out from their mouth is like feather that tickles the crowd. Of course they do practice the act but the spontaneity when they go live and do some ad-libs is clearly one of their best assets. They are a crowd-pleaser. If you are feeling sad, lonely, bored and less appreciated, this is the place to go for you will be appreciated pag inokray ka na nila ;) hehehe!

Pinas Vacation 2011: A High School Reunion

1 comment:
My husband's high school classmates arranged a small get together when we were in the Philippines. There were only 7 of them and we are total 8 people including me. We drove for like an hour or two all the way to Manila from Laguna and our time was spent on laughing and his friends well including him reminiscing their high school days and catching up on things. It was obvious that they had a good time during those times. It was hard for me to relate but I am happy just to see how my husband enjoyed his teenage years with them. It was good old memories they carry in their hearts and it makes them smile just by thinking about it not to mention the humor that the Batangenos have-they are I think fun loving people. I couldn't help to think about my own high school experiences especially when they were talking about the junior and senior ball. I myself attended it four times from freshman to senior ball. How'd that happened? That's another story.

Anyway, so we reached Manila and we were all starving, with the way our tummy growls, we can eat anything served on the table (wag lang lason :)) How do you feed 8 starving people? With a Monster Meal

Suzette and I could not get enough of the chef’s salad, it is really good, and actually all is good and yummy. The meal was big enough for 8 people and we even have to take out the left over.

Three people are also celebrating their birthdays in January so it was more like birthday celebration high school reunion in one. We are thankful for another year given to you guys by our Almighty God. I really wish that you three will all be blessed. Ferald will turn 3* this January and I can only wish for good health, more success in career (promotion :) hehehe) and family life. May God always guide you and help you in all that you do. You know that we me and your kids will always be here for your no matter what.

I thank you guys for inviting me, I really had a good time and it was nice meeting all of you. I am looking forward to that another get together like this. (excited :)? konti lang po, masaya kasi

That's just the end of the meal, the night was not over yet for we headed to one of the most happening place in the city...Punchline up next.

Pinas Vacation 2011: Butterfly Haven-Pulilan, Bulacan

2 comments:
One of the trips during our vacation in the Philippines I got most excited about was our trip to Butterfly Haven in Pulilan, Bulacan. I guess most of you, just like me, are fond of butterflies, their metamorphosis from an ugly caterpillar to a beautiful colored creature in something really very interesting even we've known it since grade school. My seven year old daughter who was raised in the UAE is fond of this beautiful insect but rarely sees it. Even I miss the times when I used to chase butterflies white and yellow near the stream in our hometown in Bulacan.

Butterfly haven is actually a private resort, a museum and butterfly sanctuary combined.

It was before Christmas that we went to see it, we had the place only to ourselves to explore together with a couple and their daughter. Entrance fee is 50 php, a higher fee is being charge if you would like to have a pictorial or you have a professional camera with you so it turned out Ferald entrance is 200 php.

We are not able to see the museum since it is close for lunch which we actually did not mind as we are there to see the butterflies but on a second thought it would have been a plus if it was open.

We were greeted by these elves by the entrance and some beautiful greenery and landscaping

The caretaker showed and explains to us and to the kids how a butterfly transforms from larvae to a winged creature. The kids were listening as they go along to see the eggs, the caterpillar, the pupa or cocoon and the butterflies in the cages one by one.

Afterwards, we were taken to a garden where some butterflies flies freely. We needed to catch one for a photo opp since they would not simply perch. Surprises really comes in different ways because one of it stay put on an orchid while Ferald was trying to get a good shot of it and it was really beautiful.

The place was more than just a butterfly haven, it is also a haven for people who are tired living in the fast lane and tries to slow down a bit to see and taste a different slice of life in the province, it was a very short visit but we could not get enough of the peace it bring to ones soul. I felt I was home, really home.

Vacation

1 comment:
my blog suffered from a long halt. it went for a three week hybernation just like its owner who is in a vacay mood already after holloween. i am (we are) very excited because we are "coming home for christmas"

normally our christmas tree would be standing in some corner of our dwelling by now like the rest of the years but since we are celebrating the yuletide season in the philippines with our loved ones, we skip the christmas tree decorating tradition we used to have here in dubai. we are saving those precious moments done with the family back home and my mom for one is actually waiting for us to decorate the house.

what's keeping us busy right now is shopping for presents and more presents. it is more costly to come home in december than any other time of the year and i think almost all ofws can attest to that but we cannot have it compromised with all the joys and love one can receive and one can give to the family and relatives during this season.

mica is counting down the days, she can't wait to see all her cousins, aunties and uncles and of course her grannies. I missed mom so much and it is a must that i see her, she just recovered from  illness and i am teribbly longing to be with her make sure she's alright, ferald on the other hand didn't set foot since five years and the dude needs a break. this vacation is also very special because we will be taking prince home for the first time and introduce the little guy to the family.

our excitement grows day after day and me and ferald is looking forward to all the things we want to do togethter back home. I can imagine the all authentic pinoy food we can eat again, the places to visit and bring the kids, to experience old pinoy culture and tradition during the holiday season. much has changed in the last five years that we have not seen our provinces but it's home and we will never grew unfamiliar with it.

Prayers for the Faithful Departed

1 comment:

MYB offers this prayer to all our departed loved ones. May your souls Rest in Peace.

Dad, Daddy Ray, Auntie Hubeng, Tito Venus, Aunti Moodie, Tito Buddy, Lola Dorang and Lolo, Amang Anse and Tita and Lola, Tito Pablo, Tito Johny, Tita Mercy...and all of those I can hardly recall
***

O Lord, my Creator and Redeemer, I believe that in Your justice You have willed purgatory for those who pass into eternity before having completely atoned for their sins.

And I believe that in Your mercy You accept suffrages, especially in the sacrifice of the Mass, for their comfort and liberation.

Enliven my faith and grant me sentiments of compassion towards these suffering brethren.

Eternal rest, grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory, through the intercession of Mary and all the saints, please free from purgatory the faithful departed.

I pray you, O St. Michael, prince of the heavenly army, take them into the eternal light which was promised by God to Abraham and his descendants.

I offer You, Lord, sacrifices and prayers of praise. Accept them on behalf of those whom we commemorate this day. Admit them into the eternal light and joy.

Eternal rest, grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.

O good Master Jesus, I entreat You for the sake of all to whom I am bound by motives of gratitude, justice, charity, and relationship: my parents, brothers and sisters, spiritual and material benefactors, the members of our Congregation and my relatives.

I recommend to You the forgotten persons, those who were more devoted to You, to the Blessed Virgin, persons who on earth had great responsibility: priests, the authorities, superiors, religious. Call them soon to eternal salvation.

Eternal rest, grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.

I thank You, O Jesus divine Master, for having come down from heaven and redeemed the human race from so much evil with Your doctrine, sanctity and death. I pray You for the dead who are in purgatory because of the propagation of evil through the press, radio, television, and the motion picture industry.

I believe that they, once freed from their sufferings and admitted into eternal happiness, will pray for the modern world so that all the means given for the elevation of this present life may be used for the attainment of everlasting life.

Eternal rest, grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.

O merciful Jesus, for the merits of Your sorrowful passion and for the love You have for me, I beseech You to forgive me the punishments I have merited for the present or future life by my many sins.

Grant me the spirit of penance, delicacy of conscience, hatred for any deliberate venial sin, and the necessary dispositions to gain indulgences.

I bind myself to help the poor dead as much as I can, and You, O infinite Goodness, give me an ever-increasing fervor so that when it is time for me to leave this world, I shall be admitted at once to contemplate You forever in heaven.

Eternal rest, grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.
