Isabela Beatrice - A Birth Story

Birth Stories

I didn't realize that my last visit to my doctor would determine when my baby would be born. I was waiting for labor to begin naturally, but due to some health risks because of my age, I had to be induced at 39 weeks and 2 days. My pregnancy was full-term but with no signs of labor yet, my doctor decided not to wait. I had to be induced to avoid any unnecessary complications.

It was December 2021, a week before Christmas, the date proposed was 26 after the celebrations but my husband has another idea. He wanted to have our baby with us on Christmas day and so we all agreed it has to be Christmas eve.

I was excited. Full of courage but nervous at the same time. How hard can it be?! I had two vaginal births before, this will just be the same. Though the last one was 12 years ago. Haha

We checked in at Mediclinic Park View on the eve of December 23. The nurse greeted us with big smiles ready to deliver our baby. Her first question was, are you having an epidural and my answer was no.

We put our things aside, get a little comfy, and even turned the tv on. The rooms at Mediclinic are well equipped and are almost hotel-like.

I changed into a hospital gown, lay in bed, and then the nurse started all procedures to induce labor. For a few hours, I was alright, the pain was manageable but after a few more hours I was riding in pain. They gave me pain relievers, pethidine first and then I was on air and gas. Last-minute when I was 6 cm dilated, I could hardly bear the pain. Ferald was watching me helpless. I thought I could do it but I was suffering so we decided to have an epidural. When the pain subside, it was the only time I was able to fall asleep, waiting for the baby to arrive.

Somehow, the birth was not progressing. The baby is stuck inside and not coming down the birth canal as it should. My doctor arrived. She suggested that if after half an hour and birth does not progress, they will have to take me to the operating room for a c-section. She doesn't want to stress the baby cause that is not good news for both of us.

It was the last thing on my mind. I told my doctor that I wanted it to be a vaginal birth and I was clear about it during our prenatal visits. My baby have other plans but I was determined to have a natural birth. I asked the nurse to change my lying position, she turn me to my side and put a pillow between my legs. Somehow, this helped because after 30 minutes, there was a little movement. With tears in my eyes, I told my doctor to wait for another hour. Seeing that the baby progressed down the birth canal, she waited and without completing the hour, I was ready to push. Isabella Beatrice was born at 3:50 pm on 24th December 2021.

She came out face up and her umbilical cord was at her shoulder. It was the reason why she was not coming out swiftly.

God is good. He listened to our prayers. When I heard the doctor say caesarian, I prayed hard. My husband and I prayed hard to God to allow this baby, being born on Christmas eve, to have a natural birth story.

Micaela's First Holy Communion

One more thing I like about Dubai and that one thing that is special apart from the millions things I like about this country is the liberty to practice religion.

As a practicing Catholic I am glad that we have our own churches here in the UAE and the people are allowed to practice their religion inside the church premises.

There are a couple of churches in Dubai that I know, one is St. Francis de Assisi in Jebel Ali and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oud Metha where we usually attend the holy mass, it is also where Prince was baptized. There is another church in Sharjah, the St. Michael's Church, it is where me and Ferald exchanged vows and where our first child Micaela was baptized.

Micaela recently received her first holy communion at St. Mary's Church after two continuous years of attending her catechism classes. Unlike in my home country, it is not included in her school program so we have to enroll her in a separate catechism class in Dubai.

I felt different that day. I felt pride in having to raise a God loving, God believing child. I am so proud of her for having to receive her first holy communion. I had goosebumps as I watch her and all the other children received their very first flesh and blood of Christ. I thank the Lord for such a blessing.

They looked angelic on white gowns provided by the church for a minimal fee including accessories (headdress for the girls, candle and scapular)

I bought for her a pretty white dress from Forever 21 to wear under the gown.

while I wore this blue dress from Iconic, there was this pretty maxi blue dress I found online but could not get it before Mica's event, I still want it so much and will have to get it.

I really wanted Ferald to be present on this special day but he was at work and there's no way to take a day off. No one's off during Saturdays at his workplace since it is the busiest day of the work week for them. There's another chance anyway since Micaela will have to continue her catechism classes, this time in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation or kumpil in Tagalog.

If you would like your child to receive his or her first holy communion in Dubai at St. Mary's Church in particular, your ward needs to attend two consecutive years of catechism class held every Friday and Saturday at the church followed by children's mass.

Here is the new announcement from the parish for the new catechism school year, you can also view it here should you wish to register your kids.

Prince Basketball Prowess :)

No comments:

Prince loves basketball. His dad plays basketball and this helps Prince to be interested in the sport. He started playing ball when he was two and a half years old and his interest in it is growing. His dads dream is to see him become a professional basketball player someday. It is too early for us to say what he will become when he grow up but whatever it is he chose to be in the future, we will always be behind him supporting all his endevours.

Prince used to be a chubby kid but with his new found skill in basketball, he has lost weight and now is physically fit. We even bought him his own MJ ball and a ring to use at home and he does use it daily.

I am glad that he has got something else to do at home apart from watching TV amd playing games in the computer. Kids nowadays are into so much gadgets which is not good. We should always balance their activity, it is also for their own benefit.
