Prince is now a school boy

2 comments:
My four year old son started school today. We made him skipped the bus ride so we can drop him to school personally on his first day. We are excited and proud parents.

He sat quietly while waiting for the other kids to arrive and when the rest of the children settle down in class we prepared to leave. Everything turned out fine but tears are inevitable, he must be just as anxious as we are but the teachers consoled him and advised us to leave so he will not cry further. We left and when we came back to pick him up he was just so happy to see us.

We eagerly listen to all his stories. It seemed that all turned out fine. He showed us his first school work and we are very proud of him. Tomorrow is another day and he will go with his sister on the bus this time.

I cant wait to hear more from him tomorrow. Our son is on his way to exploring and learning outside of the four corners of our home and we are so excited.

Prince Basketball Prowess :)

No comments:

Prince loves basketball. His dad plays basketball and this helps Prince to be interested in the sport. He started playing ball when he was two and a half years old and his interest in it is growing. His dads dream is to see him become a professional basketball player someday. It is too early for us to say what he will become when he grow up but whatever it is he chose to be in the future, we will always be behind him supporting all his endevours.

Prince used to be a chubby kid but with his new found skill in basketball, he has lost weight and now is physically fit. We even bought him his own MJ ball and a ring to use at home and he does use it daily.

I am glad that he has got something else to do at home apart from watching TV amd playing games in the computer. Kids nowadays are into so much gadgets which is not good. We should always balance their activity, it is also for their own benefit.

Tips and Tricks on Potty Training Prince

No comments:
I did it!

Peeing standing up wasn't an issue for Prince, he learned it quite very fast and he is a natural. He is less than three when he learned to pee on his own and also stays dry all night and only had very few accidents. He had his dad and his 4 year old cousin to copy when they are in the toilet doing their business they are his role models but something was left out, he relied on diapers for bowel movement. I was worried that he will get used to it and cling on it, I wanted him to understand that pee and poo both belong in the same place - the toilet - so when we run out of diapers, I did not get another pack so he will be encourage to use the potty.

We showed him again his cars potty seat we bought many months ago-his choice of course, place it on the toilet seat for him to use. He was not comfortable with this idea, he would sit for few minutes and then stand up. On the third day, he probably could not hold it longer and he sit and succeeded. We are all proud of him so we rewarded him with his favorite chocolate. He was also proud of his accomplishment and promised to use the potty seat next time. That next time took two days, not bad right and hopefully it will be down to one day like everyday.

They say boys are longer to potty train compared to girls and it holds true for my daughter and son. If you are potty training your son right now you need to remember that

one: he needs a role model - dad or older brother or cousin (boys)
two: buy the necessary equipment like potty seat or potty - let him to chose
three: rewards and praises works

Do you have extra tips and tricks on potty training, please feel free to share it here.

A not yet so spooky Saturday

No comments:
Can you call this spooky? What I see in this is pure FUN! The kids had a great time yesterday and I had fun too.

We are two weeks away from Halloween but thought that we can make something out of the orange and black crepe paper that we have at home. I thought that the kids would love to do crafts since they are already doing some art stuff. We made paper spider webs like the ones you see in the photo, we got the idea from here. We also made some orange and black  crepe hanging decors and with a little bit of make faces, we already achieved a little bit of spooky atmosphere. Hey look at the little guy and and and .........the man behind you!!!!

growing up and learning

No comments:
I remember how happy my daughter was when she got a bicycle on her 4th birthday for a present. I saw the same delight on her face after it's been fixed and finally she was able to ride it again. We ask the bike mechanic to remove the support and it did not take time for Mica to get her balance and ride the bike on her own. She was very pleased with herself and I am very proud of her. I believe that every child must learn to ride a bike as much as learn how to swim. Mica's swimming skills are getting better and better and I'm glad that she learned it at an early age. These are life long skills so as a mom I am making sure that they get to learn them

On the other hand my son is showing signs of potty readiness, he doesn't like his diapers anymore, he feels very uncomfortable with it and there are times in the day that he would not want to put it on. I think we will soon bid goodbye to diapers which only means a fatter wallet for mommy.woohoooo! :)) he is still confused with wee wee and poo poo and uses the terms interchangeably :)) at two, he has a bigger vocabulary, he can understand simple instructions and request. he can also tell us exactly what he wants and echoes every world we say. There is so much joy  in parenting, it is very overwhelming.

It's summer once again here in Dubai and we are thinking of enrolling Mica to a summer camp. She's never been to a camp so we do not know what to expect. I was looking into some decent summer camp that offer a number of fun activities. I have asked her a couple of times if she wants to join but all I get is a no until she saw a flyer at our doorstep about a summer camp. She seems interested now so we will see about that later on. June and July are also Dubai Summer Surprises month so there are a lot of fun activities in the malls for the kids. We were at Mirdif City Center last weekend for the smurfs but was late to see the show so we will take the kids there again next week.

I know that in my country, school just started while here in the UAE schools just closed for summer holidays. How are you helping your kids in their deveolpment and in learning life long skills. How are you keeping them enterntained on weekends and on holidays, share your ideas here.

Toys for two year olds

1 comment:
We are amazed at how fast our son learn things, he can now say a lot of words and can even form broken sentences, he can even ask questions and sings/hum whenever he hears a song. The toys that are lying around the house that used to be teether before are now being played with and are now keeping him busy.  The kid size kitchen of his sister is one of his favorites, he also likes to play fencing with spoon and fork and so we bought two foam swords from the toy store for him and his sister to play with.

Everyday, when I reached home, he will come to the door to give me a hug and then directly pull me to his room to play. I can't say no to this even I am tired, it is such a precious moment in my life as a mom to be able to play with my little guy and to be the center of his attention and it's a shame if I won't revert it back.

The shape that is suppose to be for the turtle became tower blocks. Another thing he likes to do is to complete the puzzle of ABC's.

My little guy is very playful, always smiling and hyperactive. I honestly don't know where all his energy is coming from. I was warned that boys are different from girls but I wasn't told how active boys can be and now I am learning from experience. :)

Applaud the early doodles

2 comments:
Prince is 18 months now and the first time he gets hold of crayons was on his first birthday that was celebrated in Chili’s - Mega Mall. At Chili’s, kids once seated are given three different colors of crayons along with a comic like kids menu with puzzles and games to keep them busy until the food is serve. This was the first time also that we have noticed that our little guy is a lefty, according to baby experts it is too early to determine now if he is a lefty or a righty but as we observe, he seem to favor his left hand over his right. Take a look at these photos of Prince at 12 months trying to make doodles.

This is Prince almost 18 months when we gave him a notebook and a pencil to write. Expert encouraged parents to applaud early doodles to cultivate a whole raft of new activities. Drawing with crayons includes fine motor skills such as holding and grasping as a well as boosting your child's visual insight and tapping his imagination.

We even captured it on a video

hey little guy, this is you when you were little and see, we thought you will be a lefty, we will wait few more years to confirm that. love you mommy

China Sea at Al Maktoum Road on a Chinese New Year

2 comments:
Prince turned ten months last February six and as usual either we celebrate it by having to order food delivered at home or dine-in in a restaurant. At the same time I was craving for some hot and sour soup and the best place to have it is at our favorite China Dragon restaurant located behind Ramada Continental Hotel in Deira (in Al Mamzar) the same building of Sevan bakery.

When we get there, the lights of the Chinese lanterns that adorn the facade of the restaurant was switched off and a post at the door says close for two days in celebration of the Chinese New Year. :( A friend suggested that we head towards Al Maktoum Road in Deira where another Chinese Restaurant is located. :) We drove all the way to Al Maktoum road and we are delighted to see that the lights are on and was quite crowded with mix nationalities having dinner. We are lucky to find a parking spot behind the restaurant, although it is a paid parking and not of the restaurants

We asked for a table for five and we were directed by a Chinese waiter into a round table. It took time for someone to give us the menu. We are clueless of what to order and we are just looking at the food on the next table. We gave our orders and since it was our first time to dine at China Sea, we had to play safe, we ordered those that we are most familiar with, the typical Chinese food. I had hot and sour soup and the rest of them had corn soup, maybe I set my expectations too high because I did not like the soup much. I gave them another shot since we ordered something else. The shrimp dumplings are fantastic, it was perfectly cook in a bamboo steamer, the only thing I notice was there was no dumplings paper underneath the dumplings in between the bamboo, maybe they missed to place one, guess it would have been better if the paper is there for heigenic and food presentation purposes.

We had some chicken spring rolls and duck served with pancake (my favorite)

Some egg fried rice and mixed noodles to go with our crispy duck and sweet and sour chicken

We actually ordered a whole duck but since only the meat is served with the pancake, the rest of the carcass with some remaining meat on it was marinated and deep fried and it was not bad, still very tasty. My daughter loves the sweet and sour chicken and we needed to order one more for take-away, she asked to have it for her packed lunch at school.

All these are for only 215 AED and the food was great and I wouldn't mind recommending the restaurant to my friends and sure we will not hesitate to come back at China Sea next time. Timeout Dubai named it as best independent Chinese restaurant in 2009 and highly commended Chinese restaurant for two consecutive years from 2009 and 2010. It was also awarded as best budget, I cannot deny the fact that they serve fresh and authentic Chinese food at low cost, very affordable.

It was Chinese New Year and I have noticed that there is a big statue of Buddha with fruit offerings next to it.

The facade of China Sea is bright red at this time as well.

Definitely we will give it another try and when we come next time I want to order some steamed crabs and lobster which are fresh from the aquariums they maintained themselves just right next to the entrance on the left side. I would love to see the live cooking station too and the fresh noodle pulling, actually I want to try it. :)

Happy eating everyone!

Welcoming Prince in to Christianity!

5 comments:
We are beaming with happiness that the baptism of our second child and only son is now over and turned out to be very successful. He is now a Christian with the blessings from God and the Holy Catholic Church.

The enormous amount of effort we have exerted to put up the party without resorting to any party planners went really well considering that the reception was held at our residence with a very limited space. My husband and I tried to make the party exclusive to family and relatives and a few very close friends only. Posing as the party planner, I make sure that all goes well. A week prior to the baptism, my husband and I attended the baptism seminar given by St. Mary’s Church in Dubai. It is mandatory for parents and godparents to attend the seminar prior to the Baptism of the child. The baptism guide booklet and form to be filled and submitted on the day of the baptism is being distributed at this time before the seminar starts.

I made a list of the party details to be sure I cover everything. I start with the baptism invites, souvenir tags and the party banner which I prepared using PowerPoint presentation. There are a lot of DIY and free printable templates over the Internet and it help me a lot in making them. We purchase the souvenirs in Sharjah and we made a very good deal for 20 pieces of a blue ceramic baby lying on his tummy on a pillow, we managed to attach the tags by tying it on with a blue ribbon.

I also write down guest names whom we want to partake in this special occasion. Some of the godparents are not in UAE and a few of them are here and was notified that they will be one of Prince godparents. To save some cash and in order not to print any invitations anymore, I upload it to Facebook and tag everyone who’s invited apart from the personal calls we made. I also thought of the decorations so I bought some blue balloons, blue and purple ribbons and even the table cover I purchase was blue to compliment everything. The candles which will be used on the church were wrapped in blue ribbons as well. For Prince, we got him an all white clothes and shoes.

The food of course is our next priority which is pure Pinoy except for the fish biryani we received as gift from my sister-in-laws friend. At first we look at the possibility of hiring a catering service which definitely will cost more but  in the end after so much consideration, we decided that the food are better off home cooked. To avoid too much work on the day itself, I had the other dishes pre-marinated like the b-b-q and the menudo while the filling for the lumpiang shanghai was also prepared and mixed ready to be wrapped then deep fried. The leche flan dessert was steamed and cooked 2 days ahead.

The time I have is just enough for the preparation however an announcement from my daughters school came out and it happen to be that her annual sports day is scheduled on the same day of Prince Baptism. It was a sigh of relief that it is in the morning because we cannot afford changing dates anymore.

Baptism at Mary's Church is every Thursday at 4pm. We left the house at 3:30 pm and reached the church before 4 o'clock, we are still early since the actuall rites starts at 4:30 pm. There are at least 10-12 babies to be baptised with different nationalities and it was Rev. Fr. Tomasito B. Veneracion OFM CAP who facilitated the baptism rites.

This time I would like to thank eveyone who made this occassion very meaningful and successful. To all our friends, relatives and family, thank you. To my son Prince, we welcome you in to the Christian world and may you embrace your religion as you are embracing God the father.

The Little Prince

10 comments:
Hi folks, salam, hello there everyone, I miss you guys! I am back!

Do you know the book The Little Prince?

I remember reading this book when I was in high school and I've been meaning to read it again however that is not the topic of today's post. I know everyone is waiting for 'the announcement.'

Baby naming is such a challenging job for parents. Since I and my husband got married, we've been dreaming of naming our baby as Lance, we think that it is a very nice name and it is inspired by our first baby-our Mitsubishi lancer-our very first car.

The photos are taken way back in 2003, I was pregnant with our first baby who happens to be a girl and since Lance is meant for a boy, we named her Lanna Micaela, Lanna is Superman's leading lady in SmalleVille who was played by Christine Kruk. Micaela is my husbands favorite baby name for a girl.

After Six Years...

A new inspiration is here and he needs a name. We decided that we will call him Lance Jerard, then we changed our mind and we said we will name him Lance Ferald and again we could not make up our mind and finally we said we will call him Lance Gabriel. Alright, so we are settled with Lance Gabriel.

At the delivery suite #4 at Al Wasl Hospital, my husband just happened to think of another name that he wants to add to the baby's name, he wanted to add Prince. I am already in pain every two minutes and I could not clearly think but the sound of Prince pleases me so I agreed with him. The baby's name became Prince Lance Gabriel. It's a pretty name though some family members and friends says it is too long and joke to us that he will be late for his exams by just writing his name on the paper. We are the parents and I certainly believed that the little prince will be thankful enough for his beautiful name.

Now its time to meet the Prince.....

The above photo was taken seconds after Prince was born. He was kept in my chest skin contact for warmth and bonding of the baby and mother. It was a wonderful feeling to hold him for the very first time. All the labor pain is gone now and only the pain from the wound is there. The warmth of my body calms Prince and he stops crying now reaching for some milk. :)

I promise more photos on upcoming posts. Ciao for now! mommy needs to feed the baby!
